Stay Cool All Summer

Why is your air conditioner blowing out warm air when it should be keeping you cool inside your Michigan home? Here are a few reasons why your AC might be blowing hot air:

  • Your Thermostat Is Set Incorrectly Did you accidentally set your thermostat to Heat instead of Cool? If so, resolving the issue is simple—just set your thermostat to Cool!

Tip: turn your thermostat fan setting from AUTO to ON during those super muggy days in the summer. Doing so will lower the humidity inside your East Lansing home and improve the indoor air quality (IAQ).

  • Your Refrigerant Is Leaking Low refrigerant levels could be the reason your air conditioner is blowing out warm air. If you have a refrigerant leak, your system will run low on refrigerant, causing your air conditioner to struggle to keep your home at the temperature set on the thermostat.

Turn to North Winds Heating & Cooling to check your AC refrigerant levels. If our professionals discover a refrigerant leak, we will address the issue, get your refrigerant levels to the appropriate range, and restore the comfort of your home.
  • Your AC Filter Is Clogged A clogged filter can result in restricted airflow and prevent your air conditioner from keeping your home cool. Protect your HVAC system—and your comfort—by replacing a disposable filter or cleaning a washable filter every 30 to 90 days.

Consider upgrading your filter. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter can trap 99.97 percent of dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, and particles, some as small as the size of 0.3 microns! Be sure the filter is compatible with your system—otherwise, the filter will restrict your system’s airflow.
  • Your Evaporator or Condenser Coils Are Dirty Dirty evaporator and condenser coils impede the airflow, preventing your home from feeling cool. It can also cause ice to form on your outdoor condenser unit. If condensation forms over the dirt and freezes, your entire air conditioning system could be at risk of breaking down completely.

Our North Winds Heating & Cooling professionals can diagnose any issues you are experiencing with your air conditioner and correct them so you can return to enjoying the comfort of your home. To prevent damage in the future, be sure all air conditioning parts and components are routinely inspected, cleaned, and maintained.
